2010 WKA NORTH AMERICAN COMBAT SPORTS CHAMPIONSHIPS JUNE 18-20, 2010

Ryan Peterson
( 170 open mma) leads NYTT into the cage. His fight seems to commence
slow with a feeling out process. However, that’s not the case as he
explodes into a jab, overhand right, and shot into a take down that all
looked like one motion. A quick progression into side control is
followed with ground and pound. Ryan’s opponent has very “gum-by” like
leg work with his bottom game making it impossible for Ryan to settle. A
scramble to the feet finds Peterson defending a single leg. Once balance
is regained a cocked back right cross causes his opponent to abandon the
single. Ryan quickly scores another take down into side control. The 10
second bell acts like a trigger shooting Peterson into an arm-bar. He
gets the tap in round 1.

Phillip ” The
Fighter ” Legrand ( 170 open mma) is the next act to follow. His
opponent comes right out the gates with a push kick followed by a super
man punch. Neither fully land and Phil responds with leg kicks that land
flush. Both fighters reset and Phil decides to be first with a powerful
body shot followed with his signature uppercut. The blows both land
knocking his opponent to the cage. After feeling Legrands power he
springs off the cage and is quick to clinch. The opponent attempts hip
throws, but is unsuccessful. The match continues with some strike
exchanges leading up to Phil’s massive uppercut. A round 1 KO locks down
the bracket.
Congratulations ATT fighters. Special
thanks to all the coach’s, family, and friends. Shout outs to 455 and
Evolution. Good luck to Ryan Peterson as he moves on to compete on team
USA in Scotland. Thank you to Phil as he brings home another WKA title

COMBAT
IN THE CAGE LIGHTWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

David Price
(Team Steele)-blue
vs.
Al Iaquinta-red
Let me start
off by saying holy shit! Fight of the night honors right here!
The first
thing that is immediately noticeable is that Prince looks about 15 years
older than Iaquinta.
Round 1 opens
with Price taking Iaquinta’s back. Price sinks in a rear naked choke and
it is not looking good for Iaquinta. The choke looks deep and I would
say I was surprised that he didn’t tap but I’ve seen him fight before so
I’m actually not surprised at all. At this point, I could not believe
that Iaquinta was not unconscious. Just as I am almost out of air from
holding my breath, Iaquinta escapes. Iaquinta gets a huge slam and
closes with a series of punches to end the round.
Round 2 opens
with Iaquinta landing a series of good punches on his feet. Price is
hurt. The two wind up on the ground and Iaquinta controls the action.
Iaquinta stands up and lets Price up. Iaquinta gets poked in the eye. It
looks bad. The Doctor is sent in to check. Eventually, the fight is
restarted. Iaquinta attacks Price with a vengeance as he unleashes a
furious series of pin point accurate, hard, and lightning fast punches.
Prince goes flying across the ring as Iaquinta knocks him out.
Iaquinta
retains the belt! I was really impressed with Iaquinta’s composure,
heart, and ability to overcome adversity. At the age of 20, he fights
with the composure of a much older fighter. This guy is going to get
better with time and I wouldn’t be surprised at all if we see him in the
IFL or WEC one day.
Al Iaquinta
wins at 2:07 of round 2 by knock out.

AL IAQUINTA WINS USKBA AMATEUR THAIBOXING SUPER MIDDLEWEIGHT EAST COAST
CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE

Super
Middleweight (160-166.9 lbs) – Thaiboxing
USKBA Amateur Thaiboxing Super Middleweight East Coast Championship
Title:
Al Iaquinta
vs.
Valentin Stratichuk (Borodin’s muay thai gym)
Round 1 opens
up with the two fighters feeling each other out. Iaquinta gets a
takedown. When they get back to their feet, Stratichuk throws a spinning
back kick and Iaquinta takes him down again. Iaquinta dominates the
round as he scored frequently with accurate striking and takedowns.
Round 2 was
dominated by Iaquinta as he used Stratichuk as a human heavy bag to
practice leg kicks. Stratichuk’s leg is starting to look an STD; red,
blotchy, and just screwed!
Round 3 is
much of the same with Iaquinta putting on a striking clinic, attacking
Stratichuk’s legs while his coach Dave is screaming “THE LEG, ATTACK THE
LEG!” Stratichuk is limping and favoring the leg. The crowd is really
into this fight as the round comes to an end.
IAQUINTA wins
by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)
